BRIEF HISTORY OF FUONDEM

Fuondem Nchumbin (Fuondem, meaning God in King) is a traditional shrine located in Ndungated Fondom in Alou Subdivision, Lebialem Division. It is situated along the Alou-Menji main road.

History has it that Fuondem Nchumbin is a sacred ground where people from far and near come to offer sacrifices and do cleansing rites to appease the gods and will receive healing and blessings thereafter. It was and is still common practice for people to drop off gifts, fowls, goats, and even money on these sacred grounds as offerings and thanksgiving. It is believed to be one of the most powerful and sacred shrines in Lebialem Division that attract believers far off the West region and other areas.

The importance of Fuondem cannot be overemphasized as nowadays the people of Ndungated Fondom still conduct libations and purification rites at Fuondem during momentous events in the Fondom.
